The Gynecomastia surgery process starts when the patient receives anesthesia. The surgeon then proceeds to address the enlarged breast tissue by making precise incisions, typically around the nipple or in the underarm area, to remove excess glandular tissue, fat, and sometimes skin, resulting in a more masculine and flatter chest contour. The focus of the surgery is solely on the chest, aiming to correct the proportions and enhance the chest's appearance, which can significantly impact the patient's self-esteem and body image. Each step of the procedure is carefully planned and executed with the patient's goals in mind, ensuring the results look natural and meet the individual's expectations for a more masculine physique.
After the gynecomastia surgery, experiencing swelling, bruising, and discomfort in the chest area is common. To ease this discomfort, your surgeon might prescribe painkillers. Keeping the incision area clean is crucial to avoid any infections. You need to avoid strenuous activities that could impact the chest area for about 4 to 6 weeks to ensure proper healing. Wearing a compression garment is key; it helps reduce swelling and supports the new chest contour as it heals. It's also important to shield the incision lines from direct sunlight to prevent scarring from becoming more visible. Generally, patients can continue their usual activities within 2 to 4 weeks, though the complete healing process and the final settling of the chest contour can take a few months.
