- Medical Evaluation: Your surgeon will review your medical history, conduct a physical examination, and possibly recommend some tests. It's crucial to disclose any eye conditions, thyroid disorders, diabetes, or cardiovascular diseases.
- Inform your surgeon about all medications, supplements, and herbal treatments you're taking
- It's advised to quit smoking at least 4-6 weeks before the surgery, as it increases the risk of complications and can alter the healing process.
- Avoid alcohol consumption at least a week before surgery, as it can increase swelling and bleeding

- The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, based on the complexity of the surgery and patient comfort.
- Making incisions: For upper eyelid surgery, the incision is typically made within the natural crease of the eyelid. For lower eyelid surgery, the incision can be made just below the lash line or inside the eyelid (transconjunctival approach), depending on whether skin needs to be removed or not.
- Excess fat is either removed or redistributed to eliminate puffiness.
- Excess skin is trimmed to achieve a more youthful appearance. If necessary, the underlying muscles are tightened.
- The incisions are closed with sutures, which may be removed after a few days or are absorbable.

After your eyelid surgery, you need to follow some instructions in order to fasten your recovery process and achieve good results.
- Keeping your head elevated higher than your chest for several days after surgery while sleeping can help reduce swelling.
- Take any prescribed medications, including pain relievers and antibiotics, as directed by your surgeon.
- Gently clean the eyelid area (consult your surgeon before) and apply any ointments as directed to aid in healing.
- Expect some swelling and bruising, which typically peak within the first week and gradually disappear over the next 2-4 weeks.
- Get a good rest and avoid any strenuous activities for the first week. Light walking is encouraged to promote blood circulation.
- Avoid bending over, lifting heavy objects, or performing activities that may increase blood pressure to the head.
- Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun and wind when going outside.
- Pay attention to the signs of infection or complications, such as increased pain, redness, fever, or unusual discharge from the incision sites, and report them immediately to your surgeon.
Although the total recovery process might take as long as two months, after the procedure, it is essential to follow aftercare instructions.
