What is Open Rhinoplasty?
Open rhinoplasty, also known as external rhinoplasty, is a surgical procedure used to reshape and enhance the appearance of the nose. It involves making a small incision on the columella, the strip of tissue between the nostrils, allowing the surgeon to lift the skin and gain direct access to the underlying nasal structures. This technique provides a clear view of the nasal framework, cartilage, and bone, allowing for precise modification and correction of nasal imperfections, ensuring accurate reshaping of the cartilage and bone, while improving both the functionality and aesthetics of the nose. Open rhinoplasty is often preferred for more complex cases or when detailed alterations to the nasal tip or bridge are required.
At Estetik International, we specialize in open rhinoplasty, using advanced techniques to correct both cosmetic and functional issues. Our personalized approach ensures that we achieve natural, harmonious results while addressing your specific needs.
What Problems Can Open Rhinoplasty Solve?
Open Rhinoplasty can address a wide range of concerns, including:
Correcting Significant Nasal Deformities: Open rhinoplasty is ideal for correcting major deformities in the nasal structure, such as those caused by trauma, previous surgeries, or birth defects. The technique provides better access to the nasal structures for precise modifications.
Improving Breathing Function: Open rhinoplasty is often used to correct functional issues, such as a deviated septum, nasal valve collapse, or other structural problems that may hinder airflow and cause breathing difficulties.
Refining the Shape and Symmetry of the Nose: For patients seeking to correct severe asymmetry, large bumps, or a misshapen nasal tip, open rhinoplasty allows for more extensive adjustments and greater control over the final shape.
Is Open Rhinoplasty Right for You?
Open Rhinoplasty may be a great option if you:
Have significant nasal deformities or breathing difficulties: If you’re dealing with structural issues like a deviated septum, nasal valve collapse, or severe asymmetry, Open Rhinoplasty provides the precision needed to achieve optimal results.
Want extensive corrections to the shape of your nose: If previous rhinoplasty procedures didn’t give the desired results or you’re looking to make more dramatic changes, open rhinoplasty allows for greater control and precision in reshaping your nose.
Are in good health with realistic expectations: Ideal candidates are generally healthy and have realistic expectations regarding the functional and aesthetic improvements that Open Rhinoplasty can provide.
Open Rhinoplasty Procedure
Before undergoing Open Rhinoplasty, it's important to follow certain steps to prepare and ensure the best results:
Medical Evaluation: Your surgeon will assess your health, review your medical history, and determine if you’re a good candidate for open rhinoplasty. Be sure to share details about any medications, allergies, or pre-existing conditions.
Discuss Your Goals: Clear communication about your goals and expectations is key. Discuss your desired nose shape and any functional concerns during your consultation. Realistic expectations help achieve the best results.
Previous Surgery Records: If you have had previous nose surgeries, bring any relevant medical records or imaging studies to help guide the current procedure.

Open rhinoplasty is a surgical technique used to reshape the nose. In this procedure, a small incision is made across the columella (the tissue between the nostrils), which provides the surgeon with direct access to the underlying nasal structures. This allows for greater precision when reshaping the nose, especially when significant corrections are required.
The key difference between open and closed rhinoplasty lies in the approach to the surgery. In open rhinoplasty, the surgeon makes an incision across the columella, providing better visibility and control over the nasal structures. This is particularly useful for more complex cases or when significant changes to the nose are necessary. In closed rhinoplasty, all incisions are made inside the nostrils, leaving no visible scars but limiting the surgeon's access to the nasal structures.
Open rhinoplasty may involve a longer recovery time compared to closed rhinoplasty due to the external incision. However, the procedure itself is not necessarily more painful. Pain and discomfort can be managed effectively with medication prescribed by your surgeon, and most patients find the recovery process manageable with proper care.
Recovery from open rhinoplasty typically takes around 1 to 2 weeks for the initial healing phase, during which swelling and bruising are common. After 2 to 3 weeks, many patients can resume normal activities. However, full recovery and the final results may take up to a year as the nose continues to settle and heal.
