What is a Smile Makeover?

A smile makeover is a personalized treatment plan that improves both the appearance and the function of your teeth. It starts with an examination of tooth color, shape, alignment, gum health and jawbone, followed by a plan that may combine porcelain laminate veneers, zirconium crowns, teeth whitening, composite fillings or, when many teeth are missing, implant-supported full-arch restorations.

Below you will find the main options in a smile makeover: the Hollywood Smile for healthy but aesthetically unsatisfying teeth, and the All-on-4, All-on-6 and All-on-8 techniques for patients who have lost most or all of their teeth.

Hollywood Smile

A Hollywood Smile is the cosmetic side of a smile makeover. Porcelain laminate veneers or zirconium crowns, teeth whitening and aesthetic fillings are combined to correct discolored, crooked, gapped, chipped or worn teeth and to create a bright, symmetrical smile that suits your facial features.

Treatment usually takes 2 to 3 sessions: an examination with impressions and, if needed, light tooth preparation and temporary veneers; a fitting and color check; and permanent bonding. It is best suited to adults with healthy teeth and gums, and with good oral hygiene the results can last many years.

All-on-4

All-on-4 replaces a full arch of missing or failing teeth with just four titanium implants per jaw, placed in the areas of the jawbone with the highest bone density. The implants anchor a fixed prosthetic arch that can often be loaded immediately, giving a quick and stable alternative to removable dentures.

It is suitable for patients in good general health with sufficient bone density and healthy gums. All-on-4 restores chewing function, prevents teeth shifting and ends the discomfort of loose dentures.

All-on-6

All-on-6 follows the same principle with six titanium implants per jaw. The additional implants spread the chewing forces over more support points, providing extra stability for the full arch of prosthetic teeth, which can also be loaded immediately in suitable cases.

Candidates need sufficient jawbone volume, healthy gums free of periodontal disease and good overall health. After the first one to two weeks of healing, the implants fuse with the jawbone over several months, creating a long-term foundation for the new teeth.

All-on-8

All-on-8 uses eight titanium implants per jaw to create the strongest foundation for a full arch of custom-designed prosthetic teeth. It is designed for patients with extensive tooth loss, severely damaged teeth or unstable dentures, and when bone density is insufficient, bone grafting can prepare the jaw for implants.

The implants are positioned with 3D imaging under local or general anesthesia, and in many cases temporary teeth are attached on the same day. By stimulating the jawbone, All-on-8 also helps prevent bone loss and preserve the natural structure of the face.

Frequently asked questions

A smile makeover is a personalized dental plan that improves the look and function of your teeth by combining treatments such as veneers, zirconium crowns, whitening or full-arch implants. Adults who are unhappy with the color, shape, alignment or wear of their teeth, or who are missing most of their teeth, can be good candidates once any gum disease or infection has been treated.

It depends on the condition of your teeth. A Hollywood Smile is for patients whose teeth and gums are healthy but who want a better color, shape or alignment. All-on-4, All-on-6 and All-on-8 are for patients who have lost most or all of their teeth in a jaw, or whose teeth cannot be saved. Your dentist decides after an examination and imaging.

All three replace a full arch of teeth with a fixed prosthesis supported by titanium implants; the difference is the number of implants per jaw. More implants distribute chewing forces over more points and give extra stability, while the right number depends on your jawbone density, bite and overall treatment plan.

A Hollywood Smile usually takes 2 to 3 sessions, while whitening alone may need only one. With All-on implants, the implants and often temporary teeth are placed on the same day; the implants then need several months to integrate with the jawbone before the permanent teeth are completed.

With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, porcelain veneers and zirconium crowns can last many years, often a decade or more. Titanium implants used in All-on-4, All-on-6 and All-on-8 are designed as a long-term solution and may last a lifetime, while the prosthetic teeth attached to them may need renewal over time.
