The goal is to restore a more youthful, lifted appearance to the breasts, particularly in cases where the breasts have sagged due to aging, weight fluctuations, pregnancy, or breastfeeding. The surgeon reshapes the breast tissue to create a more aesthetically pleasing contour.
Breast sagging (ptosis) is a natural part of the aging process, but it can be accelerated by factors such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, gravity, and genetics. As the skin loses its elasticity over time, the breast tissue can droop, resulting in a less youthful and lifted appearance.
Recovery after breast lift surgery typically takes about 2 to 3 weeks for the initial healing phase. During the first few days, swelling, bruising, and discomfort are common, which can be managed with prescribed pain medication. Most patients can return to work and normal activities within 2 weeks, but it may take up to 6 weeks for full recovery. The breasts will continue to settle into their new shape over several months.
Scarring is an inevitable part of any surgery, but the incisions for a breast lift are usually placed along the natural breast contours (around the areola, vertically down the breast, and along the fold beneath the breast).
